Mail-in ballots for the June 7, 2011 Denver Municipal Run-off Election will be distributed to voters soon.  The ballot will include finalist candidates for the following elected positions:  Mayor, City Council (Districts 1, 5 and 8) and Clerk and Recorder.  The City of Denver Elections divivision has a comprehensive list of candidates included on the ballot as well as contact information for them. 

 

The 2011 Denver Municipal Election occurred on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.  The ballot for this election include candidates for mayor, city council, auditor and clerk and recorder.  Election results are posted on the City of Denver's website.

 

In the beginning of 2011, a seven person committee, chaired by Cole Finegan (Hogan Lovells), convened by the Downtown Denver Partnership began one-on-one meetings with all Mayoral and City Council candidates participating in the 2011 Municipal election. The committee focused much of our conversation on achieving the goals set forth in the Downtown Area Plan – the 20 year vision for Downtown Denver – and on gaining a better understanding of their priorities for the city.

 

Prior to meeting, questionnaires were circulated to all candidates with specific questions pertaining to topics such as:

 

-                  Effective economic development strategies

-                  Approaches for funding proposed improvements for the 16^th Street Mall

-                  Sentiments towards created more pedestrian friendly and walkable urban environments

-                  Zoning requirements for areas such as the Golden Triangle and/or Arapahoe Square

-                  Policies impacting open spaces and parks in urban environments

-                  City department structure effectiveness

-                  FasTracks funding proposal strategies

-                  Support for Denver’s Road Home and other homeless assistance programs

The Downtown Denver Partnership planned three events relating to the 2011 municipal election.  In partnership with VISITDenver, Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce and several other business-related organizations, the DDP hosted two meet-and-greets for mayoral and council candidates in March and April.  We recently hosted a run-off debate for candidates Michael Hancock and Chris Romer.  To see what Romer and Hancock had to say, check out the coverage from 9News and the Denver Post.
